     The 2008 Diaries

Since 2000 I’ve kept web diaries of the progress of wildlife in my garden (in Hampshire, UK). Beginning as a record of a Blue Tit family followed by nesting Robins, it now includes annual nesting diaries and reports on other wildlife that lives here, or visits us. 

2005 saw the garden featured in the BBC's Spring Watch television series, and in 2006 we were visited again by the BBC, this time for a Radio 4 program called Shared Earth.

2007 was a year of mixed fortunes in the garden, with the discovery of a nationally scarce barkfly species here, a brief visit by a Wryneck, and my first chance to follow the Starlings' eventful nesting. Sadly the House Martins' brood died during bad weather, the Robins abandoned their nest, and the Great/Blue Tits didn't nest here at all.

Whatever happens, I look forward to new discoveries during the ninth year of the diary.
